Father and Child Bonding @ SAFRA Yishun
Rock Climbing and Canopy Walk
21 November 2015
It is the beginning of the school holidays! 90 parents and their children started streaming in to West View Primary School in the morning wearing smiles on their faces as they anticipated for the day's exciting activity! It is heartening to see so many fathers participating in this activity. We believe that an active and involved father is essential for a child's successful development.
There are 3 levels of difficulty for the 15 metre Sport Climbing Wall. Parents assisted to put on the harness for their children, to prepare them for the climb. The children looked high up to the walls with excitement and with their parent's encouragement, they managed to take a step at a time and scaled the wall! We could hear parents and friends cheering them on, the spirit was exhilarating!
There is also a 15 metre high Canopy Walk Rope Course with 4 different courses: the Cargo Net, broken bridge, Zig Zag Trail and the Flying Fox. This is definitely not for the faint-hearted! Fathers and children geared up for the walk, it wasn't easy taking that first step out but with their father's guidance and encouragement, children put their feet forward and followed after their fathers.
The parents had the opportunity to bond with their children and it was a great time for fathers to be role models for their children when attempting the courses! One pupil said,
"This is the first time i am out with my father for such activity, i am so proud to have completed the 4 courses of canopy walk. I would not have completed it without him. He is so brave!"
Happy holidays everyone! We hope to see you on our next bonding session in 2016!
